GST Registration Eligibility Checker
Find out whether your business has to register for GST, from your turnover, whether you supply goods or services, and the cases that need registration at any turnover.
All your supplies in India under one PAN, before GST.
Enter your turnover to see whether you need to register.
How it is calculated
- The turnover limit is ₹40 lakh for a business that supplies only goods and ₹20 lakh for one that supplies services (or goods and services). Some states have lower limits: ₹20 lakh and ₹10 lakh.
- Registration is required when the aggregate turnover of the financial year is above the limit.
- Registration is also required, whatever the turnover, when goods are sold to customers in other states, or when one of the other listed cases applies.
- When registration is required it is due within 30 days of becoming liable.
Example. A trader of goods with ₹35 lakh turnover in a state with the standard limits is under the ₹40 lakh limit, so registration is not required on turnover. If the same trader sells goods to customers in other states, registration is required whatever the turnover. A consultant with ₹22 lakh of service income is above the ₹20 lakh limit and must register.

Frequently asked questions
Is GST registration compulsory for small businesses?
Not below the turnover limit, unless one of the other cases applies. The limit is ₹40 lakh for goods only and ₹20 lakh where services are supplied, and lower in some states.
Do I need GST registration to sell goods to other states?
Generally yes. A supplier of goods to customers in other states has to register whatever its turnover, with only limited exceptions. This checker treats it as required.
Which states have the lower limits?
A few north-eastern and hill states, and the lists differ for goods and for services. They are set by notification, so check the current one for your state before relying on the answer.
Which other cases need registration at any turnover?
Examples are casual and non-resident taxable persons, businesses that pay tax under reverse charge, e-commerce operators and some businesses that sell through them, and those who deduct or collect tax at source. Answer yes to the last question if any of them applies to you.
Can I register for GST voluntarily?
Yes. A business below the limit can register, for example to claim input tax credit or to deal with customers who ask for a GST invoice, but it then has to file returns and follow the rules.
